Charlotte Matthews joined CMC’s Board of Directors in 2021. She brings more than 25 years of experience across real estate design, construction, and development, as well as energy infrastructure and technology. Charlotte is widely regarded as a trusted advisor to policymakers, organizations, and investors working to decarbonize the built environment.
Over the course of her career, Charlotte has held senior leadership roles at the intersection of sustainability, technology, and the built environment. She served as a Managing Director at RMI, where she partnered with industry leaders to advance the clean energy transition; Head of Affordable Electrification at Google, where she led a product team developing home automation solutions for utility customers with dynamic electricity pricing; Senior Director at Sidewalk Labs, leading sustainable infrastructure planning for a 400-acre, all-electric community; and Vice President of Sustainability at Related Companies, overseeing sustainability strategy across a diverse portfolio that included affordable housing, residential, retail, and commercial assets.
Charlotte has also contributed to academic leadership as a faculty member in Columbia University’s GSAPP Master’s in Real Estate Development program. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Brown University.
In addition to her professional leadership, Charlotte has extensive board and task force experience, including service with the NYC Building Resiliency Task Force, NYC Green Codes Task Force, New York State Department of Public Service REV Market Design Working Group, U.S. Department of Energy Energy Efficient Buildings Hub, DOE and EPA Labs21 EPC Development Committee, Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), World Resources Institute, Real Estate Roundtable SPAC (Vice Chair), and AIA-Boston Committee on the Environment (Co-Chair).
