Our History

Since our humble beginnings, CMC has been guided by the peerless passion of our founder, energy-efficiency pioneer Ms. Doris Iklé, who began CMC’s extraordinary journey in 1977 from her kitchen table.

Doris was a highly recognized economist who believed the best way to address the energy crisis the country was experiencing in the mid-70s was to cut waste and drive energy efficiency.

She founded CMC Energy Services and was a pioneer, one of the very few women in the energy efficiency sector. She devoted her life to this cause, convincing households, businesses, utilities and governments that it was in their economic interest to save energy, while supporting communities who need it most. Through her intelligence, optimism and passion, she grew CMC Energy contract by contract.

We remain true to her mission and a women-owned, women-led business, while expanding to become a leading provider of energy services and program management across utility sectors throughout the Northeast and Midwest.

The company remains true to Doris’ legacy through the continued leadership of her daughter, Mimi Iklé-Khalsa. After serving as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors from 2012 to 2021, Mimi remains actively engaged as a board member, providing strategic guidance and stewardship in support of the company’s mission.

2019-2025 Top Workplaces List

CMC has once again been selected for the Top Workplaces list published by the Philadelphia Inquirer and Philly.com, both of which are owned by Philadelphia Media Network. Employers are eligible for the award as long as they have more than 50 employees in the Delaware Valley in the public, private, nonprofit or governmental sector.
